Credit Cards to the Rescue When You Break Down

When was the last time you were stuck on the side of the road? If you were lucky, you were near home and could call family or friends to come pick you up. But what if you had been far away from home when you broke down?

What would happen if you had the family in the car and were hundreds of miles from home, on vacation, when the car decided to break down and left your stuck on the side of the road far from anyone or anything that you knew?

Most people have few options at this point. The most common one is to call a tow truck and pay the high prices they are going to charge to tow your car to the nearest service station for repairs to be made.

There is another option. You may be able to use a little known perk of your credit card to get this situation taken care of. Many credit card companies have perks that few people pay attention to, but can really help you out in a pinch.

One of the most common of these perks is roadside assistance. The best credit cards offer a roadside assistance plan that will get your car towed to a facility that can fix the problem. This can be a great savings for you as towing can be a very pricey proposition.

Do you know if your credit card has roadside assistance? If not, you should be taking a closer look at the offerings from your credit card company. There are plenty of rewards credit cards offer to their customers. The sad part is many customers have no idea and go on paying for services that they could have gotten for free had they just read the benefits coverage information that was sent to them by the company when they first got their credit cards.

Go over that information. If you don’t have any special perks, it may be time to ask yourself, why not? Why are you staying with a company that doesn’t offer you something back for all the money you pay them in interest?

There are plenty of credit cards out there. Start shopping around. Instead of just looking for interest rates and annual fees, also compare rewards and perks that come with the credit cards that may be useful to you in the future. Consider your lifestyle and pick the perks that will best suit your usage patterns.
